Why not huh? Why the hell not?
The Black Dalia
The James Elroy novel.
Bad movie. Great dinner scene with Hilary Swank's crazy family. Really Raymond Chandler great. They even had Hillary Swank convincingly made up as a girl. But, the rest of the movie? Crap. Pure crap.
Flyboys
WWI airplane movie.
Awful. God-awful. The lead character's hair has highlights. The movie takes place in WWI. You do the math.
Crank
Hit man is poisoned. Has an hour to live.
Starts slow but then gets really good. Really, really good.
Invincible
Walk on with no college experience makes the Philadelphia Eagles.
Junk. Weak story. They don't even try to be realistic. Mark Wahlberg's not tall enough to be a convincing college cheerleader much less an NFL player. They explore levels of sappiness not seen since Robbie Benson made your sister wet. But Dick Vermeil doesn't cry and nobody smokes in a Philly bar in 1976. Please.
Little Miss Sunshine
A family goes to a beauty pageant.
Great.
Talladega Nights
NASCAR with Will Ferrell.
Really funny.
Don't tell Denise Ross but there is no race for Governor in South Dakota. The over/under on Billion's vote is 35% and I'm betting the under.
The latest SurveyUSA poll has Mayor Mike back at 65% and that should only climb as he spends more and more campaign dough selling his bad-assed self to us folk.
What are they thinking?
The Sioux Falls Argus Leader and the Rapid City Journal each employs its share of quality writers. They each produce a decent newspaper. But, they each inflict a web site on the Internet public that is just awful. Truly wretched!
And they're just getting worse. Each paper has overhauled their respective sites in the past few weeks in ways that make it even more difficult to find items of interest. The Argus had a better site for a while but now the quality and organization of their site has fallen to that of the Journal.
The Journal wins points for its blog. It would win more points if reader comments were updated more, if Woster posted more, and if Ross posted less.
The pro-abortion crowd and the abortion apologists who comment often at Blogmore are up in arms. Seems someone had the audacity to point out that the King has no clothes! Or, in this case of abortion, people holding up photographs of abortion victims pointed out that abortion isn't simply a euphemism, it's a cold-blooded killing.
Look at the song lyrics below. Through the art of verse rather than photography the lyricist paints a picture as grim or more so than any photograph. Is that hard to hear? You bet. Should we have to listen to such lyrics and look at pictures of abortion victims? We must. They tell us the truth and we can't act on the truth if we don't know the truth.
Southern trees bear strange fruit,
Blood on the leaves and blood at the root,
Black bodies swinging in the southern breeze,
Strange fruit hanging from the poplar trees.
Pastoral scene of the gallant south,
The bulging eyes and the twisted mouth,
Scent of magnolias, sweet and fresh,
Then the sudden smell of burning flesh.
Here is fruit for the crows to pluck,
For the rain to gather, for the wind to suck,
For the sun to rot, for the trees to drop,
Here is a strange and bitter crop.
